H. D. Tylle

* 1954 in Bayreuth/Germany

“The Scheveningen Pier”, 2014
Oil on Canvas, 60 x 85 cm

H.D. Tylle studied painting under Manfred Bluth at Kunsthochschule Kassel (Art University Kassel), Germany, from 1975 to 1980. As early as the early 1980s, he made manufacturing and mining, factory buildings and harbours as well as the cultivated landscapes of the 20th and 21st century his main focus. Tylle usually sketches the subjects of his figurative paintings in oil colours on place. Difficulties in the accessibility of the sites he is interested in rarely prevent him from gaining admittance. Therefore, he has been able to reveal the specific work conditions below ground in several oil paintings at an early stage.

In 1982 Tylle was awarded the first prize in the Karlsruhe competition “Die Arbeitswelt in der Bildenden Kunst (The World of Work in Fine Arts)”. As the first non-communist artist from a western country he participated in the 7th International Pleinair of the GDR in 1987. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the German reunification he created the triptych “Der 9. November 1989 in Deuna, am Morgen danach (9 November 1989 in Deuna / The Following Morning)”. From 2005 to 2009 Tylle produced a number of commissioned works for the Grohmann Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin/USA. During his career he accomplished various art projects for renowned industrial companies in Europe and the US.

Related to our exhibition “Schöpfungen. Natur und Technik (Creations. Nature and Technology)” Russian journalist Alina Mlinek conducted an interview with H.D. Tylle. Please find a selection of images and the Russian interview here.
