Claus Bergen

Claus Bergen was the oldest son of painter and illustrator Fritz Bergen. He studied under Carl von Marr at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Munich. During World War I Claus Bergen was a war painter at the High Seas Fleet. He received several awards, such as the Great Silver Medal at the International Exhibition in Barcelona in 1911. Moreover, Claus Bergen created the illustrations for “Karl Mays Illustrierte Reiseerzählungen” to be published from 1907 onwards. After World War I, he carried out some larger commissions, e.g. nine monumental paintings for the extended Deutsches Museum, Munich.
