With fresh colours and a light brushwork Peder Mørk Mønsted captures Lake Garda in its cool beauty. While houses idyllically surround the shores, a mountain panorama opens up in the background. Some summits are still covered in snow; other areas disappear in vivid cloud formations as they are reflected in the calm water surface. In the foreground, juicy green meadows spread out cluttered with sprouting flowers.

Peder Mørk Mønsted studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and is particularly well known for his precise depiction of nature and landscapes. He was not only an exquisite painter of snow, but demonstrated a varied range of subjects being inspired by various trips to Italy, France, Greece, Switzerland, Algeria and Egypt.

During his lifetime, Peder Mørk Mønsted made himself a reputation beyond the borders of Denmark and successfully exhibited in Berlin and Munich. Especially after Scandinavian painting was re-discovered in the last decades of the 20th century, Peder Mørk Mønsted has aroused the attention of international collectors again. Until now, he has been a highly demanded painter.
