Franz Roubaud who studied under Jozef von Brandt, a Polish painter of battle scenes and academy professor in Munich, became famous for his depictions of life at the Caucasus and of fights between mountain people and the Russians. A breath-taking vitality prevails in his battle scenes and equestrian portraits.
