Study visits to the Lower Rhine, Eifel, Forest of Odes, and most notably the uplands of Thuringia had a great influence on his work. In 1904, he studies at the Art School in London und presented “Winter Sunshine”, his first major success, at the Royal Academy. Most of his landscapes were painted in the Bavarian Alps, Austria and Switzerland. Light colors are characteristic of Edward Harrison Compton’s works.
