Andrei Jegorov lost his hearing as a child. With the support of a pastor he was accepted at a school for deaf children in St. Petersburg. He studied at the Art Advancement Society of St. Petersburgand later at the Arts Academy under Ilja Repin and Dimitrij Kardowskij. His graduation painting “An Evening in the Countryside” from 1909 was published in the popular magazine Niva. Andrei Jegorov’s preference for peaceful and poetic landscapes was already visible in those days. In 1911, he became a member of the Kuindzhi Society and made himself a name as a well-known painter of landscapes and portraits. In 1913, works by him were shown in London as part of an exhibition focussing on Russian art. After several years in the Ukraine, Andrei Jegorov returned to his home country Estonia in 1921. Living in exile in the province of Chelyabinsk near the Orals as a consequence of World War II, he finally settled down in Tallinn again where he remained for the rest of his life. Andrei Jegorov stated that he drew his inspiration and strength from painting as well as the observation of the beautiful nature surrounding him.
